The Croatian and Slovenian National INQUA Committees decided to broaden this scientific meeting to wider audience as a continuum of the former meetings that took place in Zagreb, Croatia, in 2009, 2011, 2013 and 2015. The first scientific meeting organized by Croatian National INQUA Committee in 2009 has been dedicated to Quaternary Geology in Croatia with a goal to gather researchers in Quaternary sciences and support students and young researchers to find their research topics in Quaternary Geology and related fields. In 2011 the meeting was in honour of 55th anniversary of the Institute for Quaternary paleontology and geology. The 2013 meeting expanded to Slovenia, and was co-organized with the Geological Survey of Slovenia, and the 2015 meeting was co-organized with the Slovenian National INQUA Committee. The organizers recognized the need to expand further to the circum-Adriatic countries and bordering countries to Croatia and Slovenia, since geology has no borders and it is crucial to exchange knowledge throughout the research community in Quaternary Geology and associated Quaternary Sciences.

This year the 5th Regional Meeting hosts the Final conference of the LoLADRIA project “Submerged Pleistocene landscapes of the Adriatic Sea, organized by Croatian Geological Survey.
